Summary

Is this blue book more valuable than a business degree?

Most people enter their professional careers not understanding how to grow a business。 At times, this makes them feel lost, or worse, like a fraud pretending to know what they’re doing。

It’s hard to be successful without a clear understanding of how business works。 These 60 daily readings are crucial for any professional or business owner who wants to take their career to the next level。

New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestselling author, Donald Miller knows that business is more than just a good idea made profitable – it’s a system of unspoken rules, rarely taught by MBA schools。 If you are attempting to profitably grow your business or career, you need elite business knowledge—knowledge that creates tangible value。

Even if you had the time, access, or money to attend a Top 20 business school, you would still be missing the practical knowledge that propels the best and brightest forward。 However, there is another way to achieve this insider skill development, which can both drastically improve your career earnings and the satisfaction of achieving your goals。

Donald Miller learned how to rise to the top using the principles he shares in this book。 He wrote Business Made Simple to teach others what it takes to grow your career and create a company that is healthy and profitable。

These short, daily entries and accompanying videos will add enormous value to your business and the organization you work for。 In this sixty-day guide, readers will be introduced to the nine areas where truly successful leaders and their businesses excel:

Character: What kind of person succeeds in business?
Leadership: How do you unite a team around a mission?
Personal Productivity: How can you get more done in less time?
Messaging: Why aren’t customers paying more attention?
Marketing: How do I build a sales funnel?
Business Strategy: How does a business really work?
Execution: How can we get things done?

All aspects of a business explained REALLY well。 Let's face it, a lot of business books claim to be actionable but this one really truly delivers。 From writing your mission statement, to formulating sales presentations, to writing effective marketing messaging, to setting up sales funnels, to the execution of projects across many departments - it covers all bases。 I read it on the beach on vacation in one day。 Then I went back through it, taking notes for which sections I would implement once ba All aspects of a business explained REALLY well。 Let's face it, a lot of business books claim to be actionable but this one really truly delivers。 From writing your mission statement, to formulating sales presentations, to writing effective marketing messaging, to setting up sales funnels, to the execution of projects across many departments - it covers all bases。 I read it on the beach on vacation in one day。 Then I went back through it, taking notes for which sections I would implement once back at work running business, even working through many of the prompts at the end of each chapter section。 (The fact that I felt compelled to do all of this "work" while on the beach on vacation says something!) I will be buying this for all of the employees in my business and will certainly require it for onboarding new ones。 Donald Miller's passion for what he does really shines through。 Money well spent on this one! 。。。more

Very good messaging but I absolutely recommend reading it as it's designed; one excerpt per day。 I read it all at once over 1 week and it was very hard to keep track。 Very good messaging but I absolutely recommend reading it as it's designed; one excerpt per day。 I read it all at once over 1 week and it was very hard to keep track。 。。。more

Many thanks for the ARC version of this book。 I might have a re read of the book as I wasn't quite in the right frame of mind and I wouldn't describe it as an easy read even though it's not that long。It might be the formatting of my version but it also works better as a handbook that I can dip into and utilise throughout my working year。Some aspects I felt had been mentioned already in other books so it wasn't really anything new。 Many thanks for the ARC version of this book。 I might have a re read of the book as I wasn't quite in the right frame of mind and I wouldn't describe it as an easy read even though it's not that long。It might be the formatting of my version but it also works better as a handbook that I can dip into and utilise throughout my working year。Some aspects I felt had been mentioned already in other books so it wasn't really anything new。 。。。more

This is a good basic introduction to business。 You’re not going to master anything with this, though。

I am such a fan of small tangible tips that you can walk away with and execute, this book delivers that 60-fold。 Whether it was good reminders or a whole new outlook I utilized the tips in this book to their fullest and will confidently says this book has already paid for itself and my membership several times over。

As a marketing professional, I had read “Building a Story Brand” and “Marketing Made Simple。” I loved how those books took complex ideas and boiled them down to simple executable steps。 “Business Made Simple” was no different。 There are plenty of bonuses too: videos that cover each topic and then some (I used these for review at the end of each week), worksheets, and planner pages all come free as streams and downloads。 I have put together a binder of all the resources this company offers, and I As a marketing professional, I had read “Building a Story Brand” and “Marketing Made Simple。” I loved how those books took complex ideas and boiled them down to simple executable steps。 “Business Made Simple” was no different。 There are plenty of bonuses too: videos that cover each topic and then some (I used these for review at the end of each week), worksheets, and planner pages all come free as streams and downloads。 I have put together a binder of all the resources this company offers, and I’m amassing quite a knowledge base。 This book has equipped me to be a more productive worker and better leader。 。。。more

This book is like an university book。 I really like the structure and the themes。 I studied 5 years management engineering so a lot of this concepts are not new to me but the way that are explained is really effective in my opinion。 My favourite part is the metaphor to view the business like an airplane。 I definitely recommend it。

A must read for any professional (I am watching the free corresponding videos each day as well)。 Whether you are a business owner, new entrepreneur, or employee - Donald Miller distills down critical insights into actionable habits and practices。 Miller's gift is boiling down complex ideas into simple business philosophy - but don't be fooled, these concepts have power to shift the way you work and do business - for the better。 This book is also a primer for the author's Business Made Simple Uni A must read for any professional (I am watching the free corresponding videos each day as well)。 Whether you are a business owner, new entrepreneur, or employee - Donald Miller distills down critical insights into actionable habits and practices。 Miller's gift is boiling down complex ideas into simple business philosophy - but don't be fooled, these concepts have power to shift the way you work and do business - for the better。 This book is also a primer for the author's Business Made Simple University - which is an online learning platform for professionals and business owners。 Get it! 。。。more

I loved the content and presentation of this book。 I know how profoundly difficult it is to distill big ideas into concise, simple paragraphs。 This book is much more of a “primer” than I first expected, because it’s arranged in a devotional format。 But it’s a good starting place for anyone who wants the basics arranged in the easiest way possible。

Great book for understanding all aspects of a business。

Meh。。。 I read the author’s previous book, “Building a Story Brand” and loved it。 This book was more written for employees or early entrepreneurs。 That’s why I give this book a low rating。 I also didn’t appreciate the upselling tactics peppered throughout the chapters。 “Send me a blank email and I’ll send you some more videos。” “Check out some more free resources on our website at。。。”Look, I paid for the damn book, why make me opt-in for content that could have been included with the book?

A deceptively simple primer on how to succeed in business and as a leader。 If you have a team, get everyone a copy。

Easy to read and understand, this book breaks down all the aspects of a successful business leader。 This will be one of the rare books I'll read repeatedly。 Easy to read and understand, this book breaks down all the aspects of a successful business leader。 This will be one of the rare books I'll read repeatedly。 。。。more

Donald Miller breaks down the basics of running a business, divided into 10 broad areas。 He give specific actionable tips that make some of these overwhelming skills feel a bit more manageable。 I had hoped there would be more here for freelancers and one-person businesses, but that may have been a misperception on my part。

Matt Mccomas

On one hand the simplicity of the tips and strategies are wonderful。 On the other hand perhaps a bit too simplistic。 10 pages on sales, 10 pages on execution。 I also love that leadership, character and personal productivity are included as being relevant to leading a business。

Excellent Book On BusinessThis book was amazing and a great resource for any worker employed but others or starting you own business。 Love Donald Miller's use of the late Joseph Campbell and bringing power of the Myth and the Hero's journey to business。 Excellent Book On BusinessThis book was amazing and a great resource for any worker employed but others or starting you own business。 Love Donald Miller's use of the late Joseph Campbell and bringing power of the Myth and the Hero's journey to business。 。。。more

Audiobook read by the author。 There is bonus material included in the audio book that is worth getting the audio version even if you have the book。 This book may look small but that's because Donald Miller has figured out how to put huge concepts into a concise package。 There is a 60 day video course that goes with the book。 I also started watching those。 This is a book I will likely be revisiting several times this year。 This book is for anyone that wants to be paid for more than their muscle。 Audiobook read by the author。 There is bonus material included in the audio book that is worth getting the audio version even if you have the book。 This book may look small but that's because Donald Miller has figured out how to put huge concepts into a concise package。 There is a 60 day video course that goes with the book。 I also started watching those。 This is a book I will likely be revisiting several times this year。 This book is for anyone that wants to be paid for more than their muscle。 。。。more
